Holbein Repackage

A branded line of packaging for Holbein Art Materials Inc.'s gouache and acrylic gouache series. I designed cartons and labels using custom colour palettes: Hydrangea Springs, featuring the pastel colours of spring flowers, and Earthen Trails, toned with earthy colours of natural landscapes.

My primary objective was to create expressive packaging while simplifying the amount of information on the boxes. Immediately, I wanted to create a clear and immediate distinction: regular gouache would use darker boxes with metal tubes and clear labels, while acrylic gouache would use white boxes with white tubes.

Since many people are unfamiliar with gouache, I also wanted the packaging to highlight their key attributes. Both paints are opaque with a matte finish, but regular gouache is water-soluble while acrylic gouache is water-resistant.

I experimented with many combinations of fonts, colourways, and grids. To create the final designs, I took the best elements from several different tests and combined them.
